Like some of you may also feel, I love my DLP projector, but I was always a bit annoyed at both the fan noise and the slight colorwheel whine (I even have one of the models with the upgraded bearing sleeve) from my Infocus 5700. I thought that a Whisperflow hushbox could help the situation and I am very pleased to report that it did tremendously. With the box installed, it cut the projector noise at least 80-90%. The only thing I hear now are the extremely quiet exhaust fans on the box and I have to struggle to hear those even with the audio on mute.
Dave Beatty at Whisperflow worked with me to design the best box for my needs (an open top model in black acrylic) and even came up with an nice idea to have an extended lip on the front of the box to deal with my sloping ceiling and allow the box to fit flush on that slope. It took about 3 weeks for the box to arrive. Dave was easily available if I had any problems with the installation (I did not) and he was there to answer all my questions. I could not have asked for a better pre sale and post sale experience.
Some quick observations:
Construction: Extremely nice craftsmanship on Dave's part. All angles and cuts are razor sharp and precise and you can tell he takes great pride in his work. Even the optional sound insulation was cut and glued in precisely. The box was packed extremely well for shipping.
Installation: It was a 2 person job but very easy. I simply made a cardboard template and marked where the bolts holes would be. I drilled 3 holes into the ceiling at those marks and installed the special supplied toggle bolts. Then I stuck the box flush with the ceiling and threaded the supplied bolts and wingnuts through the box into the toggle bolts in the ceiling and tightened. Done deal.
Performance: I could not imagine that the box would turn out as well and work as well as it did. This is the most satisfied I have been with a product in a very long time and would not hesitate to recommend a Whisperflow hushbox to anyone seeking to cut down the noise from their projector.
I will add some pics below shortly.
Any questions please feel free to ask or PM me.
